Pieces of Memory

After the death of her grandma, it feels like everything in eleven-year-old Molly's life has fallen apart at the seams. The kids at school are mean, her stomach hurts all the time, and her parents don't understand her. Hoping to help her stitch things back together are her Aunt Jolene, a glamorous costume designer, and Ruth, grandma's best friend with a mysterious past.

As Molly makes a quilt to honour her grandmother's memory, she unspools family secrets, lays out her issues with anxiety and grief, and sews a new idea of herself together.

This story of the ties that bind generations is a love letter to Janzen's grandmother, a Mennonite refugee from Ukraine during the Second World War, and to the many wonderful women she has met through quilting.
